Good Afternoon All,
One of my staff has been diagnosed with Leukemia 7-8 months ago but has just disclosed it to HR. How should an employer handle such a situation? What kind of support can we provide apart from financial assistance? She is covered under ESIC.
Kindly advise.
Thanks & Regards

Dear Sunita, hats off to you and your management for generously coming forward to extend support to an employee afflicted with leukemia, a group of blood cancers. It is certainly a killer disease; in 2015 alone, it caused the death of 353,500 people. It involves prolonged treatments like chemotherapy, radiation, and bone marrow transplant, which are not only expensive but also very painful. Therefore, apart from financial support, prolonged moral support to the patient/employee is required from all, including family, employer, and fellow employees.
