Hi, I am facing a very bad situation. My parent organization is Wipro, but I am working at a client place, which is a reputed MNC. I resigned on 24th June on the Wipro portal and also sent an email to my manager. Technically, my last date was supposed to be 20th September, and my new company's joining date was 28th September. According to the rules, my manager should have informed the client. However, as he did not do so, I sent an email to my HCL manager on 17th August to inform the client, but he only informed them on 27th August 2018, which was only 23 days before.
When the client confronted him, he assured them that they would retain me. However, I declined at that time, which resulted in a few wasted days. The client finally received confirmation on 2nd September and forced me to either stay or take release after one month, on 2nd October. I emailed my new company for an extension but did not receive any reply within 7 days, so I agreed to stay.
Now, Wipro is offering a very low hike, and the new company sent a mail for extension on 3rd October 2018. Therefore, I decided not to retain. After informing the client of my decision, they reacted angrily and stated they would not release me before one month from now, which is 14th October 2018. Since I have the client's laptop and without obtaining a release from them, I cannot get a release from Wipro. Additionally, the Wipro manager is not willing to release me.
Please advise me on what to do and how to manage to leave. Are there any legal ways since I did not revoke my resignation? All discussions happened verbally, and there is no written communication regarding this retention. Can the client forcefully stop me? What should I do with the laptop? If I leave the laptop at the client's office and inform them of my decision via email, and do not return to the client's office after 20th September, would this be helpful? Remember that a relieving letter is mandatory to join a new company.

You need to get in touch with your HR department and inform them about the harassment at the workplace even after resigning, following the complete notice period and all procedures. If HR does not help you, inform them that your only option is to approach the labor office. If they do not assist you in this matter, you should then approach the labor office and file a case against the harassment and the refusal to relieve you from your duties in your current organization.
