Hello All,

I am completing 2 years at an organization on 2nd Feb 2017, and I've signed a bond for 2 years with it. Now I want to resign. Will the rest of the duration be considered in the Notice Period of 90 days, or do I have to serve 90 days post 2nd Feb 2017?

I am really confused. Can anyone help with this?

Clarification Needed on Bond and Notice Period

Information related to your query needs some more clarity: (1) Are you with a Government/PSU or Private organization? (2) Is the notice period mentioned as 90 days or 30 days? (3) Does your bond mention anything about the effective date of the notice period? (4) Are you currently undergoing Technical Training for which you signed a 2-year bond?

However, your bond for 2 years is due to end on 2.2.2017. The purpose of the bond is that you should not leave the organization before 2.2.2017 or pay back the amount mentioned in the bond. But you can serve the notice of resignation and give 90 days' time to relieve yourself anytime beyond 2.2.17. In other words, you need not wait for the end of the bond period to serve the resignation letter, as the days left between the date of the resignation letter and 2.2.17 will also be calculated for a 90-day notice, unless it is specifically mentioned in your bond.

Good luck

We do not know the actual terms of the bond. It's good to know you are planning to honor it. One of the easiest ways now is to go to the HR team and ask them clearly whether your resigning now with a 90-day notice amounts to breaking the bond. Be prepared to argue your case (politely) that you are working till the last day of the bond, but just giving them your notice of intent to leave after that. You can make your decision based on that.
