Dear all,
I have 4 years of experience in HR and admin and 1 year in accounts admin. Currently, I am looking for a job. In my HR role, I worked in small manufacturing industries where strong communication skills were not required. Unfortunately, I struggle to perform well in interviews due to my poor communication skills. I have been trying to improve my communication, but I am unsure how to overcome this challenge. I have attended many interviews where I was told that I have sufficient knowledge, but I failed to effectively communicate. Please help me with advice on how to improve my communication skills and perform better in HR interviews.
Regards,

Hi,
You are right. Communication plays a vital role in an HR position, but at the same time, technical skills are also crucial for HR roles. If you excel in HR skills, you should also focus on developing your communication skills to a certain level.
You can improve your communication skills by reading English papers, watching programs related to English, and practicing speaking in English with friends and colleagues. This practice will help enhance your communication abilities and bridge any gaps in your skills.

Improving Communication Skills Through Practice
Think of speaking English as any other practical skill—like driving, swimming, playing chess, or singing. How do you get better at driving? Or swimming? Or playing chess? By practicing. The same goes for speaking English. You may learn traffic rules by reading papers and manuals, but that won't help you drive in a crowded market or on a highway. Similarly, you may learn the difference between a gear and a steering wheel by watching others drive, but that won't help you drive yourself. For example, can you drive a bus just because you have seen the bus driver driving so many times? The point being—"reading" and "watching" won't help you do it. You need practice and the right practice at that—with someone who can spot your mistakes and correct you.
If you have time, maybe you can form a practice group with your friends to help each other build communication skills through practice. Get the best practice you can—that's the only way that will work.

You can attend classes that help you improve English by teaching you, encouraging you to speak, and conducting exams and tests. Try it. One of my friends was in the same situation, but taking the right class helped him to speak well and have clear, normal communications. Your other experiences will surely help you.
Note: Don't think that you are learning English and you don't know English. Just feel that you speak good English and you know it well. Then, go ahead and make way for more practice. English will come naturally.
