Hello, everyone! I'm new in this business of human resources. I'm a teacher, and I'm thinking about becoming a consultant in human resources. My idea is to sell a system of employee appraisal to other schools so that managers can use it to evaluate their teachers. Do you think this is a good idea? Is there anything similar in your country? Thank you for your opinion.

Hi Isabel,
As far as my opinion is concerned, it is a good idea, but there are a few points to be considered before that:
Firstly, you should be aware of what exactly HUMAN RESOURCE is. I am saying this because you stated that you are new to this field.
For the appraisal system, you really need to know everything about it because you are going to sell it, not just use it for your company.
Regarding Performance Appraisal, you should also know everything about Training and Development (T&D) as it will help you compare and identify performance.
With all these points in mind, this is a nice idea, and you can definitely go for it.
Regarding your question about this in our country, yes, we have many top placement companies that are selling almost all the functions to many major companies.
Best regards,

Hello, Deepali Singh,
Thank you for your reply. Can you explain to me what T&D means? Can you also help with some articles or sites that you know about on this subject? By the way, it crossed my mind to use it in my company first as a means to test it. But I gave up because I was afraid of how people, who are my workmates and friends, might react to this new system. What is your opinion? Have you tried something like this in your organization?
Best regards,
Isabel

Isabel,
Here are a couple of random thoughts you may want to mull over:
1) Is the system you devised a "need" based? By "need" based, I mean, is this a result of some kind of survey you have conducted within the school community?
2) Do they really want such a system? Do they have the budget for it? How many prospective buyers do you have?
3) Are there any other systems in place? Will you have any competitors?
Unless you are certain of a "market need" for a product or system, no matter how good it is, it will be a tough sell.
Hope this helps.

Hi Isabel,
The driving principle behind the performance review system should be to improve the quality of education for all pupils, assisting school teachers to develop and carry out their duties more effectively. Teachers, as professionals, deserve a fair system of performance review. Reviews must include opportunities for career and professional development relevant to both school targets and personal career aspirations. Teachers make a difference in the achievement of their pupils, and that should be recognized as a key part of the review process. Standards of pupil attainment should be raised by establishing clear connections between pupil progress and teachers' objectives.

T&D stands for Training and Development. You have a separate section in Cite HR where you can get more info on this. If you have any trouble getting it, our friends are always there to help you.
