I recently joined as an HR assistant. What about the Professional Tax? Does it have any act covering it? Is this covered by insurance and any other expenses? How do I calculate the Professional Tax? Please kindly provide the act number.

Any person earning a salary of Rs. 21,001/- and above per half-year is liable to pay Profession Tax. The employer is responsible for deducting the tax (as per slab rate) from the salary payable to such a person before the salary is paid in the months of August and January each year. The employer must then remit the tax to the respective Corporation where the establishment is located by the 15th of September and the 15th of February, respectively, without fail. Failure to do so will result in a penalty as per the rules.
Half-Yearly Periods in PT Remittance
There are two half-yearly periods in PT remittance:
1) April to September
2) October to March
Find attached the details for the slab rate pertaining to the Chennai location.
