Hi,

Most professional organizations in India, such as HUL, ITC, and the Tata Group, have very good mentoring programs to ensure there is no dearth of leadership talent. The problem lies with larger family-owned concerns where owners find it challenging to accept the need to groom the next generation.

The real issue in mentoring is identifying the right mentor and getting them to learn about mentoring. Additionally, defining the scope of mentoring and selecting the appropriate mentees are crucial steps. Retaining the talent that is mentored poses a challenge as they require sufficient growth opportunities and challenging assignments.

I hope these pointers are helpful. For more details, you may want to visit sites like BNET Today | Management, Strategy, Work Life Skills & Advice for Professionals.
