Dear Friends,

I am a B.A. passout working as an HR recruiter. I want to improve my knowledge so that I can join booming organizations and achieve the desired salary. I truly admit that my communication skills are not good enough, but nothing is impossible. This is my first step in joining this community. I know I will learn a lot from here. If you all will help me...

Sincerely,

Deepali

Hello Deepali,

It's really strange that you are currently working as an HR Recruiter and want to join as a Front Office Secretary. I feel you can have a bright career in the HR field as well. Now, coming to your point about replying to that email, I don't want to disappoint you, but I feel if they have not contacted you, they may have already recruited someone or the position is on hold.

Deepali,

As far as your query is concerned on following up, you can send a casual email requesting info on the outcome of the interview and whether the position has been filled. In case they have filled the position, you can request them to keep your resume in their file for future opportunities.

Well, I am doubtful because the fact that you are an HR professional and all of a sudden request to change to a much different profile (I am not underestimating the profile of a front office person) would make them rethink hiring you. Honey, your reason may be money, but the employer would not want to risk hiring you and making you feel uncomfortable with lesser challenges. What if you get a better pay package with another company in a few days? Remember, the biggest mistake in recruitment is hiring a person who is overqualified, paying them well, but giving no opportunity for advancement.

If salary is the reason for you to consider a change, I suggest you wait and look for other HR jobs with higher responsibilities (next level higher compared to your current role). As a secretary or front office assistant, the chances of a "Mgr - Front Office" or "Sr. Officer - Front Office" are nil. Do you understand my viewpoint? There is no advancement in your learning and opportunity to earn as you learn.

I suggest you look for a core HR role. Employers don't mind if you are looking for a change to advance to a higher profile and earn a better salary. Nothing is easy in the initial period, but be focused, and I am sure you will do great!

Good Luck!

I don't think you will be able to get a good job and grow in your career. You should look upwards, not downwards. You have downgraded yourself by writing this kind of email. I don't think you will get this job.

You should attend some coaching classes for Interview Skills and Career planning. That will help you. Sorry to be very blunt.

All the best.

I understand you are new to the community.

Each time you post, you don't have to delete your previous post and paste a new one. Because when people see it, it will look like all our answers are irrelevant. 🙄

Take care!
