Hi, I am new to this network and find it a very informative channel for gaining practical insights into the functioning of HR. I look forward to receiving and sharing information through this forum to facilitate a better appreciation of HR theory and practice.
I have read some really good posts on Manpower Planning in this network. However, I feel that if each one of us could give a brief on the process and strategies of Manpower Planning of one's company, it would be an interesting and enriching collection of case studies on the subject. It would not only help us appreciate the way it is done in different types of organizations but also help us develop better alternatives to an existing system. This area specifically deserves great attention in the wake of the recent market recession which has forced companies to right-size themselves.
I would, therefore, like to invite responses from all interested members in the following form:
1) What kind of organization are you working for? Service/manufacturing/Size - with the strength of the workforce/Nature of Business/Type of Manpower, etc.
2) What is the existing process/procedure for manpower planning in your organization?
3) Any examples of Manpower Planning exercises done in your organization in the light of adopting new technology, recession in the market, expansion of business, etc.
It is, however, not important to mention the name of the company or any company-specific information. This is only a learning exercise.
