Hi Shreedevi,

I have a presentation on Dabba Walla logistics, but I have heard that it is related to Six Sigma or even Eight Sigma. If anyone has knowledge about this, could you please assist me?

Hello friend,

If the number of defects is 6 in a total of 100,000,000 transactions, then it is considered as EIGHT SIGMA. Mumbai dabbawalas make 1 error/defect in 6,000,000 transactions, so the sigma level is lower at 6.6 sigma. In simple words, if the number of defects is higher, the sigma level is lower. If about 6 defects occur in 1 million transactions, it is Six Sigma. You may see the sigma calculator at the following link: Process Sigma Calculator ( Search On Cite | Search On Google )

Since the errors committed by Mumbai dabbawalas are so few that it can be termed as almost defect-free, we may call it "eight sigma" metaphorically.
