What is the scientific method of measuring the effectiveness of training especially for the HOD level? Is there any statistical tool available for the same?

hi,
The Kurk-Patrick model can be used to measure the training effectiveness at four different levels.
If you want to measure the training effectivess by a pre-test and post-test method then Statistically it can be measured using the "t-test: Paired two sample for Means". Using this method, u can calculate the significant values before training and after training. If the difference in these values is high, then the training effectiveness is high

Hello Debyani,

Measuring the effectiveness of training can be done at one or more levels. The most popular method is still Donald Kirkpatrick’s four level evaluation.

Level 1 - Reaction

How did participants react to the program?

Level 2 - Learning

To what extent did participants improve knowledge and skills and change attitudes as a result of the training?

Level 3 - Behavior

To what extent did participants change their behavior back in the workplace as a result of the training?

Level 4 – Results

What organizational benefits resulted from the training?

Jack Phillips has added a fifth level – Return on Investment (ROI). You can find out more about evaluating the effectiveness of training at:

You’ll also find here some links to evaluation resources.
