Nora,
You can implement a proper HR policy and procedures in hospitals as well, like in other organizations. The concept of holiness or charity has already disappeared from society, with management now looking for good profits from their businesses (i.e. hospitals). Therefore, it is essential to implement a proper HR system as it is a human-oriented business.
If you haven't started any procedures yet, you can begin at level one by ensuring proper filing for all employees and establishing different policies, etc...

Hi,
Even I am in the healthcare sector, and in our hospital, we have a proper HR Department established. You can start with proper personal file updation, a savior application installed for time office work, and payroll work (PF, Mediclaim, and various other things). Various employee benefits programs, proper policies for travel, recruitment, appraisal, compensation, T&D, internship (because in hospitals we charge interns in some fields and give stipend in some, so it's a must), allowance policies like for day manager, night manager, night allowance, risk allowance policy (for employees working where radiations are emitted like X-ray and all, we give special allowance), and many more. You just have to start, and you'll find no end.
If these policies are there, and you can start working on getting some recognition for your hospital like NABH, JCAI, and many more.

Hello,
I also head a hospital in AP and candidly accept that the healthcare sector in the country is Doctor-Centered. Keeping the surrogate customer for the patient at the center itself is alright provided the nurses and others working directly and indirectly for the patient are also in the vicinity of the doctors. However, this is not the case in most institutions, big corporate chains included.
It would benefit my hospital too if I am provided with the method/approach for adapting the HR policies and processes followed in other industries to a healthcare setting.
Thanks,
Manini

I repeat what I have mentioned earlier - I head a hospital in AP and note that the HR dimensions are weak in the Healthcare Institutions. In my view, it is primarily because the institutions are doctor-driven and focused. In this regard, certain disciplines sit at the higher level of the caste/discipline system. The focus on doctors, the surrogate customer for the patients itself, is accepted provided the management doesn't lose sight of nurses and others involved in the delivery of healthcare.
However, this is not the case in our healthcare delivery institutions - large corporate chains included.
It would benefit me and the support functionaries in my hospital if I am also provided with the approach and methods to adapt and adopt the HR policies and processes followed in other industries.

Dear Sir, thank you for your valuable guidance. It will definitely help me to establish HR policies. As I am currently working with a private manufacturing company, I have no idea about what policies are typically in place in hospitals. Could you please guide me on where I can find more detailed information to learn and understand hospital setups more thoroughly? Your valuable guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Awaiting your response.
