Dear Shwsethi,
In order for a staff member to earn a promotion, it is crucial to conduct regular performance reviews to identify employees' strengths and weaknesses. This process will help them improve in areas that will ultimately lead to job advancement. Promotions should be based solely on merit and should be granted to employees who have served in the same position for five consecutive years, demonstrating outstanding performance and making special contributions to the organization.
Employee promotions should primarily occur from within the organization whenever possible. When an employee is promoted, a 5% salary increment on their basic salary should be provided.

Dear Shweta,
As per my understanding, all faculty promotions are based on the UGC and AICTE guidelines. For example, individuals having SET, NET, or Ph.D. are entitled to promotion. It also depends on the type of experience he/she has. It is difficult to suggest a promotion criteria as such, but the following things are taken into consideration:
1. Original papers presented at national and international conferences
2. Seminars conducted for colleges
3. Arranging extracurricular activities
4. Highlighting the name of the college in the industry
5. NGO association
6. Books written
7. Qualifications
8. Feedback from students
9. Acting as a visiting faculty at other colleges
There can be many other criteria depending on the goals your college wants to target.
