Geetha,

With the proliferation of BPOs, skillsets of various sorts have taken a beating. Voice and accent training is not simply aping the western style of speech delivery. It can be best taught by a speech therapist (who teaches challenged people to vocalize better), but in the last seven years and contacts with various BPOs, I found only one place employing such a person - Hero Mindmine in 2001. I don't know their current status.

Contact educational counseling services, British Council for help.

Hi All,

I'm an expat from the United States currently working as a voice and accent/communication training manager. I have been in the field for the past four years. (I have been in India since 2005). I'm currently working for a BPO and am very curious about freelance training. I would like to pursue becoming a freelance trainer at some point in time. Currently residing in Chennai. I would like to meet and contact other freelance trainers in a community or via phone, etc.

I know this is essential to build contacts and know people when you are a freelancer. Any other suggestions would be GREAT!!

Thank you.

Hi All,

I am Simran. I have more than 5 years of experience working in the BPO and IT industries, and I also have international experience. I just moved back from the United States 2 months ago. I have a neutral accent. I am looking to pursue my career as a Voice and Accent Trainer. I would appreciate if I could get some help regarding the requirements and how and where I should apply.

Regards,

Hi Harsha,

Thanks for the reply. That's a good suggestion, but first, I want to join somewhere, maybe in a small company. The thing is I am not able to find a good consultant in Delhi Gurgaon area. Also, could you please let me know where can I do the "Train the Trainer" Course, for how long it is, and what is the cost of it.

Understanding Accent and Pronunciation

Hi folks, I hope you are doing well. I feel good when I see the enormous interest in VNA. I have been a VNA trainer and a speech therapist for the past 7 years, specializing in pure American, Scottish, and Australian accents. From my experience, I would like to share something.

Friends, first of all, you need to learn the difference between accent and pronunciation. Topics like "phonetics," "stress patterns," "intonation," etc., fall under pronunciation. Accent, on the other hand, includes all of these plus much more. It involves elements like music patterns, rubber band exercises, Duh..Duh Duh sound practice, and many more.

By learning topics such as "phonetics," "syllables," "syllable stress," "sentence stress," and "intonation," your mind may produce some sounds. However, to sound like a native speaker completely, these topics are not enough. It requires learning many concepts and techniques. A comprehensive coverage of any particular accent takes at least 4 months (if you are really serious), excluding accent neutralization and accent assessment.

I would like to help anyone out there in terms of knowledge, training, materials, etc. Feel free to call me anytime, but don't forget to mention the site and purpose before you call through an SMS.

Warm Regards,
Shakespeare
