Hi Shreya,
The buddy system is a procedure in which two people, the buddies, operate together as a single unit so that they are able to monitor and help each other. When this system is used as part of training or the induction of newcomers to an organization, the less experienced buddy learns more quickly from close and frequent contact with the experienced buddy than when operating alone.
Induction program for all (including sales and HO people):
General Induction Program: Covers the organization's history, mission, goals, policies, structure, benefits, products, customer profiles, and other personnel policies.
Specific Job Induction: Provides in-depth information on what is expected of the person and their general accountabilities.
Departmental Induction: Normally done by departmental heads, it covers departmental objectives and team goals.
PLUS POINTS
For Employees:
- A chance to get a clearer picture of the organization with a comprehensive introduction to its culture and philosophy.
- Introductions to relevant people, which make it easier for new recruits to approach them subsequently.
- Time to settle in, learn, and capture information before expectations on the deliverables begin to come in.
For the Organization:
- A chance to spend important, initial time with new employees to get to know him/her better and set expectations accordingly.
- A system that ensures new hires are well-settled and productive at a faster pace, putting them higher up on the organization's learning curve.
- Helps keep the groups and departments in shape and updated on their procedures and policies since they are expected to share the details regularly.
Hope now you got the idea of the buddy system and induction program.

Hi Shreya
There are other non monetary ways to motivate buddy, for example u can give appreciation letter to buddy for his help to his new colleague. Secondly u can announce BUDDY OF THE MONTH and give some small gift to appreciate his help.
Mentoring is done by senior persons to junior person.Mentorship refers to a developmental relationship between a more experienced mentor and a less experienced partner referred to as a protégé—a person guided and protected by a more prominent person.

As I'm progressing with my project, I feel that the induction procedure is a bit boring for the new employee. It is just orienting him or giving presentations. I know it is important, but the first day should be memorable, right?
How can I make it more fun?

Hi Shreya,
You can make it interesting by getting a person from each department to come and introduce their department, putting forth in detail how getting to know the departments would be of help. For example, Finance could come and explain how employees should fill their investment declaration and who would be the point of contact in case of any queries. Email addresses could also be shared if required. However, you would need to block the calendars of the speakers well in advance and inform them.
I am curious to know how often inductions happen in your organization.

Hi Shreya!
I understand the things that you wish to do on the very first day! You know what happens when you call up so many people from different departments is that they keep talking about their departments without linking it to the job that the new joiners are supposed to do once they start working, and this makes it very boring for the new employees. I would suggest you do an icebreaker and then give them two to three exercises like preparing a presentation on the company after you introduce them to different departments and their heads. Then let them discuss it after the lunch break with you acting as the moderator and pitching in whenever needed.
Afterward, you can call the department heads and let them know what all they missed out on. Instead of calling the department heads on the first day, let the new employees go to them, understand, and then call the heads to give presentations on their respective departments.
I have been taking Induction sessions for new joiners in my organization and try to make it as much fun as possible. The second day onwards (first day being the company introduction), you can start telling them about their roles and how to accomplish that, the various responsibilities, and depending upon the time available, involve a lot of exercises while the induction is going on!

Hi Shreya,
You can arrange to introduce the new member to all employees and hold short meetings with the heads of departments. Additionally, you can develop an employee orientation manual to cover all information needed by the newcomers. This should include the company's vision and mission, historical information about the company, organizational department roles and responsibilities, code of conduct, workplace standards, employee facilities, and any relevant information.
