Hello seniors,

My name is Jyoti Sharma, and I am employed as an HR Executive cum Manager at a Maruti Suzuki dealership. My problem is that Tata Motors is going to start their dealership in our town after one month.

Until today, our dealership has been the only automobile dealer in our town. However, due to the opening of another dealership, most of our employees are planning to migrate there. We do not want this to happen because all of our employees are experienced, and we do not want to lose them.

I would greatly appreciate your valuable suggestions on how to minimize this migration.

Regards,
J. Sharma

The alternative to that can be to make them aware of the opportunities they can have by staying here. Also, start interacting with them to understand what they are aspiring for and what can make them stay. It also depends on the practices you are currently following for employee engagement, which gives you a better understanding of how satisfied they are.

Thanks,

You may start interacting with the employees through training or seminars on employee benefits in your organization.

Employees who have decided to go will definitely attend. They might have experienced incidents within the company that are unforgettable, such as the lack of commitment fulfillment by management or misbehavior by superiors.

You should inform them about the company's latest developments periodically, provide insights into the market regardless of the company's image, share upcoming changes within the company, and highlight the benefits employees and their families receive. Some seniors regularly visit field staff to show appreciation for their efforts.

Introduce new HR initiatives that your competitors may not have implemented, such as conducting the appraisal process twice a year. After evaluating employees, consider offering monetary rewards based on their performance rating.

Besides these initiatives, suggest new ideas to the management that you may not directly implement.

Ultimately, as a loyal employee of your organization, it is important to address any issues promptly with management. They will take appropriate steps to resolve these concerns.

I will never advocate winding up the show. Maruti vehicles have their own popularity and are the most wanted vehicles today in our country. Infrastructure facilities are available throughout the country. These vehicles can be repaired if required at any place, and all the auto mechanics are trained.

Poaching is quite common in any industry, and the automobile field is not an exception. Salespeople are attracted by the increased emoluments they will receive from a new car dealer in town. We cannot increase the present emoluments just because someone is coming afresh and offering a better salary.

Call for a meeting of the sales staff and explain to them the advantages of Maruti Vehicles and their experience in selling them to the people. Explain to them that their career prospects are good at your dealer point.

Despite all these efforts, if someone wants to migrate to another dealer point for another vehicle, do not worry. You will stay strong. No one is indispensable.
