Hi Ankur,

As you have mentioned that

your office is 35 away from city. Office timings are 9 to 6 in corporate.

office bus leaves at 8 am and reaches at 9 am , but your bus leaves at sharp 6 p.m too right??? you can tell the distance problem .

And one more thing you can do, you can write a mail to your MD : IT'S A TYPICAL INDIAN MENTALITY THAT WORKING FOR LONG HOURS MEANS VERY HARD WORKING & 100% COMMITMENT ETC.

While it is common to see employees put in long hours in India, the key difference in China is that the long hours are put in with the sole intent of getting the job completed, rather than make a show of work, or staying in the office till the boss is there.

PEOPLE WHO REGULARLY SIT LATE IN THE OFFICE DONT KNOW TO MANAGE THEIR TIME. SIMPLE! * Very clear, LEAVE ON TIME!!!

* Never put in extra time " *unless really needed *"

* Don't stay back un-necessarily and spoil your company work culture which will in turn cause inconvenience to you and your colleagues.

convey this msg to your MD.

Let's see ..hope for the best.

Cheers..

Shubhada

Nice advice shubhada,
I am also facing the same problem with myself. As i was joined my present company which is 20 mins from my house. I had left previous company for the long distance problem. But the employer and senior employees of this organisation have same traditional thoughts that the peoples sitting after the office time are commited and doing a lot work for progress of company.
In my case our MD is also thinking the same traditional way. We are in trouble everyday while leaving the office before other employees.
So do u think this will help to change the traditional thinking of indian employers.
Can u suggest me some good idea.
regards,
Rahul

hi
first of all we are employee not slave. late sitting every day is not a good sign, it shows you are not able to complete your work in a time. but many companies want to employee sit after office hour, they said it means you are sincere in your work.
second thing if work is not complete in a specified period, then late sitting is ok.
if company said you should sit late, then company should pay allowance & other facility.
if you are against of late sitting, then change the job is a good suggestion always . if you try to change the office is not always possible because other employees sit late because they didn't get second job or not efficient to complete work and manager impressed by late sitting.
in these case u lose your confidence of your work & unnecessary hedache create pressure on you.
don't worry this is not always happened.

Thanks a lot to all ..for valuable feedback.. MR JATENDRA I COMPLETELY AGGREE WITH WHAT YOU SAY...I ALWAYS FIGHT BACK AND HAVE LOT OF PATIENCE. Even my boss admits that i have good spirits and patience..even filled with so many negative thoughts i always keep motivating other emploees and bost their moral...but it have been 8 months i have been trying to make change...infact now My boss got his relative as a senior position who is not even MBA and and have less experience than all of us..and he is now a barrier between us.

this problem is getting complex...i am very much commited to the company..i worked 4 months without a single off sometimes 24 to 28 hrs continously .on a special pilot project....in return i got deduction in one day salary as i reached late to office...

Infront of other SBU heads he blame us for no reason- like you must have not mailed the sbu head..we says we do have mailed and can show proof but he dont understant and says to leave...

once a HRF told that he will resign .Boss said he will get a better hand.

Ankur,
Its very easy actually. You dont have to quit the job. And you dont have to first convince your boss also, in order to leave the office at 6 pm. Just stop the work and leave your seat to board the bus.
Let the boss worry and spend sleepless nights about how to convince you to stay beyond 6 pm :-) One of my friends did this and it simply worked.
Next day, never explain/apologize or give execuses. But do make it a point to see the boss face to face, smile and talk about work. Also ask about his health and wellbeing before beginning the day's work. Never get into arguments even if provocated.
But to balance this, you should also give a serious thought of what you are going to do with the extra time you will be getting in the evening. Plan something such as going to gym, helping children with studies, playing badminton rather than just lying on the sofa watching TV and thinking about how your boss would react the next day.

Dear Mr Ankur,
It seems u r confuse as what to do so that u can work with the company and also can overcome from the said problem.
Very first i would like to suggest u dent even think to quit, cause if u quit now that means u r running away from the problems, in sated u face it and ask your boss appointment when he is free and tell him as request still if he is not free then u must raias the issue in open forum of the company and still if u dent get a solution then go to your management and apprise them about your problems and the amount of efforts made by u to solve the issue.
last but not least dent loose your temper cause that is our strength.
With Regards

Hi,
The reply given by you is excellent.
But it is not assured that what happened in above case the same will happen with Ankur. Because no two persons are similar. Ankurs boss may write a memo to ankur, for not disobedience , or fire him for leaving early. Also this may further hamper the relations between ankur and his boss. Here we members dont know exactly the situation that ankur is facing, as we just get to know the case in a para or so, so ankur should not act directly on advices but take the points , ideas and see whether it suits the environment that he is in.

Hi,
You need to sit down and first weigh your mental satisfaction and motivation. Are you happy with what you are doing?
Working late hours is one of the worst punishments. I think you should decide for yourself. You can easily get another job. Please understand money is not everything. Why suffer internally?
Also a suggestion, I think while going for interviews one should clearly state that he/she would work whole heartedly during office works and avoid late sitting. I have done this in my interviews and worked in best of India's companies and am still working...
So guys dont be afraid..rather be clear than suffer later!
