Hello, I am living in the UAE on my wife's sponsorship/visa and wanted to ask if I take a job with a Dubai Free Zone company and want to continue on my wife's sponsorship/visa, can I get a labor card through the company? I was told by the company PRO that this is not possible for free zone companies to issue a labor card without transferring to their visa. Is this correct? I have read articles that confirm that from 2019 the laws were amended to permit husbands to work on the wife's visa in the UAE, so how can I get a labor card? This company is based in Dubai Media City and is an FZ LLC. I don't want to take their visa as their medical insurance will not cover a pre-existing condition I have, which is covered by my wife's company insurance. Please advise.

Understanding the Possibility of Obtaining a Labor Card for Free Zone Company Employees on a Spouse Visa

🚩 It's essential to clarify that labor laws and company policies can vary, so it's crucial to seek specific advice from the relevant authorities or legal experts in the UAE. However, here are some general insights to guide you:

1. Legal Considerations:
- According to UAE labor laws, individuals sponsored by their spouses can work legally in the country without the need to transfer their sponsorship.
- Free zone companies typically issue labor cards to their employees, regardless of their sponsorship status.
- The information provided by the company PRO might need further clarification, as regulations have evolved to accommodate spouses working on their partner's visa.

2. Options for Obtaining a Labor Card:
- Request a detailed explanation from the company's PRO regarding their policy on issuing labor cards to employees sponsored by their spouses.
- If the company insists on transferring sponsorship, discuss alternative arrangements such as remaining on your wife's visa while obtaining a labor card.
- Contact the relevant free zone authority where the company is registered to inquire about specific procedures for employees on spouse sponsorship.

3. Navigating Medical Insurance Concerns:
- Given your medical insurance preferences, communicate your situation to the HR department or the company's relevant personnel.
- Explore the possibility of retaining your wife's medical insurance coverage while being employed by the free zone company, ensuring continuity of care for your pre-existing condition.

4. Seeking Expert Guidance:
- Consult with legal advisors or HR professionals specializing in UAE labor laws to gain tailored advice on your unique circumstances.
- Stay informed about any recent regulatory changes that may impact your ability to work on your spouse's visa while holding a labor card.

In conclusion, while it's advisable to seek direct clarification from the company and relevant authorities, the possibility of obtaining a labor card while remaining on your wife's sponsorship should be explored further to align with UAE regulations and your personal requirements.
