In which section of the Factories Act or any other relevant legislation is it stipulated that "after every 48 hours, one 24-hour rest period is granted"? Additionally, it states that for the weekly rest day to be applicable, an individual must work a minimum of four days within that week; otherwise, no rest day will be provided. I am in urgent need of assistance in locating this information as my attempts thus far have been unsuccessful.

Weekly Rest Day and Leave Calculation

The law states that after every 6 days of continuous working, an employee should be allowed 24 hours of rest. Obviously, if one has not worked for 6 days, they need not be given a weekly day off. However, a day of absence with paid leave shall be considered as a day worked. That day should always be included in the 48-hour calculation for all purposes, including overtime and the weekly day off. Therefore, in respect of employees who have leave with wages to their credit, this will not apply. After all, we should not work on at least one day in a week just to deny the rights of an employee.

Section 51 of the Factories Act

Section 51 of the Factories Act addresses 48 hours of work in a week.

Section 52: Weekly Off

Section 52 discusses the weekly off. According to this section, the first day of every week (i.e., Sunday) is designated as a holiday. The weekly holiday may be replaced by another day so that no worker is required to work continuously for ten days without a day off for at least 24 hours. This is how Section 52 is interpreted.
