Dear Friends,

Please help me understand how to calculate the salary for someone who joins in the middle of the month. For example, if a person joins the organization on the 23rd of October and their monthly salary is Rs. 10,000/-, my main question is whether for the per-day salary calculation, should I divide the salary by 31 days or 26/27 days.

Thanks,
Sujit

Hi,

1) In the case of new joiners - Salary is calculated based on the number of days worked + weekends...

2) But if you have to calculate the per day salary for the month of October, you won't divide it by 31. We don't include Sundays for any month; it has to be divided by 27.

I hope this helps you.

Hi Sujit,

How are you paying salaries to all employees? It can be done in both ways, but the more legal method is to divide the total salary by 26 and multiply it by the number of working days. One day's salary is calculated by dividing by 26.

Friend,

Basically, the salary is divided by 30, regardless of whether the month consists of 31, 28, or 29 days. You have to divide the salary by 30 and then multiply it by the number of days the individual attends work. This method may be helpful to you.

Apart from Gratuity, where a month is considered to be of 26 days, the salary for those who join in the middle of any month, normally the month should be considered as if there are 30 days only.

There are organizations which base the month on the actual number of days. I have not come across any act which states that a month should be of 30 days or the actual number of days. If there is any act that specifies that a month should be of 30 days, please let me know (Provide the exact section of the act).

Therefore, check the practice in your organization. Examine the salary slips of those employees who have worked for a lesser number of days and find out how the salary for that month for those employees has been calculated.

Nilendra

I have a doubt in this regard. An employee recently complained to me that for 1 day's LWOP, his PF contribution, flexi claims, and other components are also showing variation and that the reduction is not only in salary. Is this possible?
