Dear Seniors,

Generally, no leave is allowed during the notice period. However, if an employee takes sick leave during the notice period, is it acceptable? Can we extend his notice period based on the sick leave he took during this time? Please advise.

Thank you.

If a person is sick after submitting their notice of resignation, you need to accept it, and leave should be granted. You can also request a medical/fitness certificate if the leave duration is more than 2 days.

Whether to extend their notice period in proportion to the sick leave taken is solely at your management's discretion.

Hi,

Ill health is something very common for all, whether an active employee or an employee on notice period. So, sick leave during the notice period can be allowed. Whether to extend the notice period or not is at the discretion of the management. In most cases, the resigned employee will be advised to extend the notice period if the number of days of leave availed is more. One or two days can be ignored provided the employee has completed the assigned work during the notice period.
