Which is better, a receptionist job or a telecom rigger job? I have been a receptionist for three years now, but I want a job in which I can gain more experience, improve my salary, and have better future prospects that are in demand by other companies.

Dear Mahmoud Rady,

Right now, you are working as a secretary, and you wish to become a "telecom rigger." What exactly is the nature of the job? Will it require a change of company, or will you be able to make a lateral move within the same company? Are you qualified to do this job? Are you competent to handle the various tasks of this job?

Before making a switch, I recommend you do a SWOT Analysis of your career. You will find sufficient information on Google on SWOT Analysis of a career. However, if you wish to read my past reply on the subject, then you may click here.

A change of job is fine; however, it should not be a temporary measure. You should be clear about what the promotional avenues will be in this field. Please be clear on what could be your designation after 5, 10, 15, and 20 years.

Thanks,

Dinesh Divekar
