Hi, can I resign from my position where I joined the company just 3 months ago? I have now received a new opportunity from a different company. Can I resign citing family issues and join another company? My notice period is 1 month, but they may not accept the resignation. Please advise—I'm confused.

Hi, If you are not comfortable with your current employment, you can resign citing any reasons. However, ensure you serve the proper notice period of 1 month and get relieved. The employer has no other option but to accept your resignation provided you are serving the proper notice period.

Consider the employer's perspective

Think about the amount of effort they have put into hiring you, placing you in the department after the induction/training process. They will need to start the whole process again to find a replacement for you. Before joining a company, conduct a thorough analysis of the company to determine if the field is relevant to you, the opportunities for growth/learning within the company, their project/production performance over a couple of years, and the stability of employment, etc.

Future job offers and stability

Now, after joining another company, if you receive another job offer, what will be your stance? At some point, you need to draw a line and aim to stay with a company for a minimum of 4-5 years for mutual benefit.
