Hi, I have a query. One of our employees took leave from Monday to Thursday, with the succeeding Friday being a holiday, and he returned to duty on Saturday itself. In this case, should I consider 4 days' leave, or do I need to count 5 days as leave, considering the 1-day holiday? Kindly assist me in resolving this issue.

Since these are recurring issues, please lay down a policy/rules regarding such matters. A holiday can be suffixed or prefixed to the leave, and it will not be counted as a leave day provided the employee has worked on the preceding/succeeding working day. Frame a policy and communicate it to all employees so that it is uniformly applied to all.

Dear Prasoona-Subhash, the employee is on leave from Monday to Thursday, and the succeeding Friday is a holiday. In this case, you should consider 4 days of leave, excluding the holiday.

Furthermore, this type of problem arises and creates dissatisfaction in the mind of the employee in the absence of a leave policy for the establishment. You, as the HR professional, should frame the leave policy to avoid such inconveniences in the future.
