Dear All, I want to know how many days should be worked in a week for the "weekly off" required under the Factory Act. If anybody has joined a company on Friday, will they get rest on Sunday? The factory is closed only on Sunday in a week.

Weekly Off Under the Factories Act

Under the Factories Act, one day off in a week of 7 days is a must. In this case, the factory is closed only on Sunday in a week, and the employee has joined on a Friday. Therefore, the employee will work on Friday and Saturday, and then Sunday will be the weekly off. From next week onwards, there will be no issue.

Weekly Off and Leave Policies

One needs to work 6 days or a minimum of 48 hours prior to the weekly off day. Furthermore, every establishment follows different rules to administer leave, holidays, the weekly holiday, compensatory off, and National & Festival holidays as per their registration under the act.

Thank you!

Dear colleague, ordinarily, for six days of work (actual work and authorized leave), one weekly off is mandatory under the FA/Rules. If somebody joins on any day during the week, they will get a weekly off as the factory remains closed on the weekly off day.
