Hi, I resigned in the last week of February 2020. At the time of accepting my resignation, it was stated that I must serve the notice period as per the appointment letter and will be relieved upon its completion, which is in the last week of May 2020.

Due to the lockdown, there is a reduced volume of work, and I have not received any tasks from the company during this period. However, my salary has not been affected.

The company now wishes to relieve me by the 17th of April 2020, and I will receive my full salary until that date.

My question is, are there any legal implications in relieving an employee early during this lockdown period?

Hi,

Please rephrase the above to better understand the issue at hand. Are you the one who resigned, or are you speaking on behalf of someone? As an HR professional, are you raising a query?

Legal implications might be complex since the individual resigned before the lockdown began, which was subsequently implemented nationwide. There are several potential defenses that the employer could still utilize in court.

Thanks and Regards
