Understanding the Leave Card
The Leave Card explains the annual leaves availed and the balance to be carried forward to the next year. The annual period is shown from April 2007 to March 2008.
• Rows 7 and 8 reflect the opening balances as of 1st April 2007.
• Columns F and G against each month in the annual period reflect the leaves availed in the respective month, whereas the corresponding columns H and I reflect the balance at the end of the month.
• The narration or remarks of each leave are mentioned in Column E against each month.
• The closing balance as of 31st March 2008 is shown in rows 23 and 24.

As per the attachment, the number of PL (Paid Leave) availed depends on the organization. PL can be carried forward to the next year, whereas CL (Casual Leave) will not be carried forward; it should be used within the year. SL (Sick Leave) is different from CL. SL leave is calculated based on the number of days. For example, for each month, you will get 1 SL, and likewise, for 12 months, 12 SL. CL & PL depend on the organization's policies. You need to know how many of the leaves can be carried forward to the next year. If you are paid monthly, the financial year, like April to March, will be the financial year. This is maintained by manufacturing concerns. Some IT & BPO companies follow the calendar year. Even daily paid (wages) laborers follow the calendar year. If further clarifications are required, let me know. If I am misguided, guide me to the right path.

Dear Sameeran, the casual leave is a paid leave meant to cater to sudden contingencies, whether related to a sudden short illness or work contingency. This leave cannot be carried over to the next year. On the other hand, PL is earned depending on the formula followed in your company for one day over the number of days worked. It is cumulative in nature and can be availed for any valid purpose (whether sickness or otherwise) but with prior approval from the management. PL is also earned on leave taken. Presently, the system is also being followed for crediting the two leaves in advance.

I think it will be better if we add a column of leave learned in the month , so that we can add the CO and the PL earned by working on sunday/holiday as CO in each month.
