Dear All, I came across information about a forklift license on this site. Our company operates under the Factory Act in Maharashtra and uses a forklift. However, we have never obtained a license for the driver, although he is well-trained in operating the vehicle. We are now planning to comply with the regulations, but I have a few queries:

a) Do we need to register the diesel-operated forklift? If yes, under which clause should we do so?

b) Considering that we were operating without a driver's license, are we liable to pay any penalties? If so, where can I find the relevant clause and details? (It's worth noting that there were no accidents during this period.)

c) Are there any other requirements or regulations that we should be aware of and comply with?

Thank you in advance.

There is no special license for forklift drivers. However, he/she should have a regular HCV/LCV driving license from the RTO, in which there will be a separate endorsement on driving a) valid carriages b) forklifts and off-road vehicles c) special purpose vehicles. Hence, get your forklift driver with a regular driving license with the endorsement. Read more at: https://www.citehr.com/278349-forkli...s-license.html

Dear Sir, we have two forklifts. Every year, we pay RTO tax and fees for the Fitness Certificate for insurance. The RTO requires the vehicles to be brought to RTO Darjipura in Vadodara, Gujarat, which is very difficult. We must meet all the requirements set by the RTO.

Requirements for Obtaining the Fitness Certificate from the RTO

What are the requirements for obtaining the Fitness Certificate from the RTO?

I would like to add the following information for forklift/reach truck operators in industrial areas:

1. Register the forklift at the RTO office.
2. Ensure the forklift has insurance.
3. Only operators with a forklift operator license should operate the forklift.
4. Undergo a pre-employment medical check-up, including an eye test.
5. Have a third-party testing conducted by a competent person approved by the state director of industrial safety and health.

Vikas
