Dear Forum,

Both courses cover all areas in the HR field. The advantages and disadvantages of the courses are factors you have to consider:

IIM - A XLRI
1. Short time period 1. Long time period
2. Not focused on HR 2. Well known for HR
3. Online Evaluation 3. Traditional Evaluation
4. Program focused on policy makers 4. All areas of HR
5. +5 years of experience required to join 5. +2 years of experience required
6. Last date Jan - 08 6. Last date 15-Nov - 07

Dear Mr. Peer Mohammed,

Firstly, my compliments to you. This is a good exercise for those who seek ways to evaluate, which is a crucial part of any management, specifically for those in the HR function. XLRI and to a large extent TISS are well-known institutes for studies in human resources management. Human resources management is a significant field that will play a crucial role in the future, particularly as the demand for resources surpasses availability.

It is essential not to view HR as separate from mainstream management. To advance beyond HR in your career, you will need to integrate human resources with other functions such as marketing, finance, strategic thinking, and change management. HR in the service industry is also vital, especially in India where the service sector is a major export earner and will dominate the economy for the next 10 to 15 years. Understanding aspects like Joint Ventures, mergers, and acquisitions is crucial in today's scenario. IIM provides comprehensive education on these topics, while XLRI focuses more on the manufacturing industry, particularly Industrial Relations relevant in dealing with unions in manufacturing organizations.

In my opinion, for those with a futuristic perspective, IIM would be the ideal choice. These are personal views, and there may be differing assessments. I am contemplating the future.

Thank you, Mr. Peer Mohammed, for initiating this discussion. I am confident that most readers will find the discussion and views expressed here very beneficial.

Warm regards,
Loveindra

Hi Peer,

To be very practical in life, I have seen more than a couple of people who have done an MBA from XLRI, and I am also in touch with them. They are totally different from others and have a very good and positive attitude. Additionally, they have very good knowledge, both practical and theoretical.

Hence, I would request you to kindly consider going for XLRI.

Thanks and Regards,

Dear Sardar Saheb,

I feel IIM-A would be a better option. In 6 months, you can upgrade yourself, learn, and implement, whereas in XLRI, it is of 18 months. Money-wise, it is also cost-effective. XLRI is more focused on the traditional industry, whereas IIM-A is more service-centric. This is my personal view.

Regards,
Rajesh

Dear Mr. Peer,

When it comes to HR, it is always better to go with XLRI, as they specialize in this field. XLRI has a long-established reputation predating the establishment of many other business schools. The dedication of XLRI to the HR field makes its course highly valued in the HR industry.

Dear Mr. Sardar,

My view on both cases is as follows. I would request you to please add your view and also correct me if I am wrong.

01. XLRI:

Is a 14-month session conducted via satellite. The content, discussions, and quality of learning may not be the same as in a classroom setting.

It is a certificate course, which means it is not equivalent to a diploma or a degree.

Costing about 1.8 lakhs, it is costly in my opinion.

02. IIM - A:

Is again an MDP, which is only a certificate program.

Most business schools provide such training from time to time.

It is also not equivalent to a diploma or degree in HR.

I understand that these courses are conducted by faculty to generate revenue for the institutes, leading to the introduction of such programs.

My question is, if a person completes these courses and aims for the top position in the industry based on these certificates, what is the level of acceptance? Moreover, what are the chances when competing against graduates from institutions like Symbiosis or ICFAI, or any other second and third-tier B-Schools?

If the purpose is solely for knowledge, then it is quite costly. If the intention is to obtain a "Degree," your response to my query will be significant.

Thanks and Regards,

SKP

Dear Peer,

According to me, XLRI is better. One reason is the extensive course content. My brother is currently pursuing his PGCBM from XLRI. The way the course is conducted is very good and effective provided the candidate is able to keep pace with the lectures.

You haven't mentioned your objective of taking the course. If your aim is to get an insight into strategic HR, then you should opt for IIM-A. Otherwise, knowledge and content-wise, XLRI is the best.

Regards and all the best,

Priya Shan

Hi All,

I request you to share your opinion on the industry recognition for E-MBA from XLRI for PGCHRM. My only concern is the acceptance by the industry, as the quality of learning is assured.

Thanks for your inputs.

Dear Mr. Peer,

I would like to ask you whether you've opted for any of these programs. If yes, then from which institute. Even I'm planning to get an enrollment done for one of the programs. Please suggest honestly what I should do and how it is going to be beneficial for me.

Please share your opinion on the industry recognition for E-MBA from XLRI for PGCHRM. Are these certificates accepted by good industries like TATA, Infosys, Google, Microsoft, etc.?

Please revert at the earliest.

Dear HR Professional,

My perception about this discussion is that we should know what we want to be in the future, keeping our competency in mind. XLRI and IIM have polished a good number of students every year. It is not just a certificate or training that an executive will receive, but the content of the course is important and how it helps in terms of the CTC factor and enriching knowledge in operations. Every HR person may not understand the lingo of XLRI and IIM as both are unique in their fundamentals.

I think we need to know ourselves first, and based on this, we can seek counseling via email or phone or reference both institutes to compare the outcomes.

I completed my MBA from IGNOU with a specialization in HR. Would obtaining certificates from MDP programs at XLRI or IIM-A benefit my career? I am interested in attending the MDP on performance evaluation at XLRI scheduled from January 28th to February 1st. Additionally, XLRI offers another HR program. I am currently working in recruitment, training, and development. I am contemplating whether performance evaluation would be beneficial for me, or if I should pursue MDP certificates in my specialization. I would appreciate your guidance. Thank you.
