Inquiry About Mathadi Kamgar Registration

I want to know that our company is in Ranjangaon. We have engaged Mathadi Kamgar in the company through a contractor, but that contractor has not registered these workers with the Pune Mathadi Board. The Pune Mathadi Board has visited our company and asked us to register our company with them.

Currently, we are paying Mathadi workers on a tonnage basis. So, is it necessary to have an agreement? If yes, with whom - the contractor or the Pune Mathadi Board?

Kindly advise me on the further process.

It seems the Mathadi Act is applicable to you. That's why an officer from the Mathadi Board has visited you and asked you to register with the Board.

Understanding the Mathadi Act

According to the Mathadi Act, all the loading and unloading work as defined in the Act must be carried out by Mathadi Workers registered with the Board and not by contract laborers. You also need to register yourself with the Board and pay levy charges on the work carried out by such Mathadi Workers to the Board. The Board will take care of wages, other benefits/facilities, social security, etc., of the Mathadi Workers from the amount you pay to the Board towards levy.

Compliance with the Mathadi Act

Currently, the payment you are making to the Mathadi Workers is not in accordance with the law. To know the procedure of registration, you are advised to approach the Mathadi Board in your area before you receive a notice from the Board. You are also advised to read the Mathadi Act.
