Hi All, I need help writing my brother's resume. He has worked in the industry side (Ferro alloys) as a smelter for almost 20 years. After that, he took a break for nearly 10 years from the industry side. During this period, he worked in the education sector. However, due to some reasons, he left that field and now wants to rejoin the industry side with 20 years of experience. He is facing challenges due to the gap in his industrial experience. Please suggest how to address the ten years of service that is not in the industry sector.
Challenges in Addressing the Employment Gap
Usually, when applying for jobs, he only mentions his 20 years of experience and leaves the last ten years blank. Please advise on what to include in the resume for those ten years. If he doesn't mention the ten years, he fears no one will select him for the job.
I am looking forward to your reply. Thank you in advance.

You have not given us complete detail. What did your brother do for 10 years in the education sector and why did he switch fields in the first place and now wants to switch back? Does he not think that a 10-year gap is too long a period, considering that technology may have changed during that time?
He needs to demonstrate what he did during those ten years and how that experience will benefit both him and his potential new employer.

Hi Sarita,
The simple solution is to include and write the truth about his 10 years of experience as well. Once there is an interview call, he should be ready to give a smart answer connecting the practical experience of working in Ferro Alloy Smelting, the theoretical relevance - knowledge gained while teaching others, etc. He should highlight the unique features of his resume and be prepared to answer questions regarding his decision to return to the industry.

Dear Sarita,
No one can hide the truth. If you try to hide it from the recruiter, the biggest issues will be the Experience certificate, reference check from the earlier employer, and the last drawn salary. How will you manage all of this? It's better not to give any false information and proceed on the right path. If caught, one may lose everything they have right now.
Thank you.
