Hi HR's,
I have a question regarding the register of leave with wages. On which basis do we have to maintain it? Should it be on a calendar year or an account year basis?
Currently, I am maintaining the leave register from January onwards. Some friends have mentioned that in March, we should close the last year's attendance leave and open a new register from April.
Could you please clarify my doubt and provide me with some information on the leave register as per the Factories Act?
Thank you,
Nagarjun R

Dear Mr. Nagarjun,
There are no fixed norms for maintaining leave records. It may be either from January to December or based on the financial year.
The Factory Act provides guidelines for providing and calculating leaves, specifically for Earned Leave. Employees are entitled to one day of leave after working for 20 days.
Casual and Sick leaves are available as per the applicable Standing Orders.
Thank you.

Dear Mr. Rajesh Kumar Dubey,
Your post "There are no fixed norms for maintaining leave records to be maintained. It may be either since January to December, or FY." is, with due respect, "without application of mind and lack of knowledge." Please go through the Shops and Establishments Act, Building and Other Construction Workers Act of 1996, and the Contract Labour Act to understand the applicability and eligibility of various types of leave provided therein.
Furthermore, the same leave is to be credited on a calendar year basis, i.e., January to December. Your statement that "Casual and sick leave are available as per the standing order applicable" is not factually correct. Please revert to me if I am wrong.
