Dear All,
I have been tasked with preparing an orientation program for the new recruits. I have been advised that the PowerPoint presentation should be exceptional to attract the new employees and provide an overall view of the company. The employees should be able to see that there are good prospects for them within the company.
Can anyone assist me with this?
Thanks,
Jayashree

Jaysree:
You can start with a:
- Welcome Message
- Introduction
- Talk about Key people
- Org chart
- HR functions
- HR Policies - this is where you can attract the new joiners by showcasing the innovative and cool HR policies in place. I hope you have the idea.
Innovative ideas are welcome.
Thanks,

Hi John, I have seen the induction-HR ppt. It talks about rules and leave policies which may not be a motivating factor for a new recruit is my apprehension. Thanks, Jayashree

Hi Jayshree,
To make it more interesting, you can consider the following suggestions:
1) Include good pictures and sound clips in the presentation.
2) Incorporate video clips showcasing the company's premises, speeches by key personnel, mission, and vision in the top management's own voice.
3) You can also distribute an orientation book during the session. Consider adding puzzles and crosswords about the company to encourage new joiners to stay attentive as they solve them.
The aforementioned elements need to be designed, and this process may take some time. When planning the orientation, remember that new joiners are eager to learn about the company they have joined. However, their level of interest also depends on how you present the information. The session should be lively. Include practical jokes, share the company's achievements, and highlight key individuals. Avoid solely focusing on company information; new joiners are more interested in understanding what the company offers them in terms of their career path. Present this information differently, perhaps through stories or jokes. Remember, you play a crucial role in making a difference, and you have training aids at your disposal. Utilize them effectively!
I hope these suggestions are helpful to you.
All the best!

Forget about the PPTs; you can just make it and put it on the screen. But to attract the new joinees, prepare a plan in such a way that they feel comfortable with it. Have 2-3 sessions on Games and get-togethers in a day. Offer them Lunch/Snacks, T-shirts, etc., and make the program lively. This is the day on which one will have expectations about the company, and they will give their verdicts as well. So, do remember that whatever you are going to do, do it with zeal and believe in yourself. Hope this works.
Thank you,

Hi Jayashree,
Orientation for new recruits means bringing about a change in the mindset of the recruit to blend positively with the objectives and goals of the company. While this is the broad purpose, one key point you must remember in making orientation programs is the way you relate to the recruits at an individual level. Here are some of them:
You must go through their CVs thoroughly to note their personal interests, hobbies, and ambitions mentioned in the CV. These are very important as they provide a clue to their future plans.
While presenting a bright picture of the company profile, you must align it with these factors, indicating that each of them has a scope for good career development as well as self-development.
You could include points like how the company could facilitate the upgrade of their qualifications, training opportunities provided, etc.
As a new recruit, each one would aspire to rise high in the company, and your presentation should assure them that it's not just high-flying goals of the company but also that the personal development of each individual employee is important for the company.
Your own talks should include remarks appreciating some talents or skills of the employees like swimming, sports, etc., which would bring them recognition among others. They would appreciate your close observation and also feel comfortable.
Finally, after your good presentation, you must ensure that the department they are posted in has a well-defined role, and the department head has a positive outlook. You must also prepare the department heads to welcome the recruits with a positive outlook.
Wishing you all the best in your efforts.

Hi Jayshree,
Attracting the new joinees will work only for a limited time. A better idea would be to make an impact on them. If you can clearly depict the vision of the organization, they could feel part of something big which is always a motivating factor. If this can be done in a manner that Chaitali suggested, i.e., including audio-video clips from top people in the org, there will be more personalization of the vision, plus, they will get to know the top management. Chaitali and Mirza have made many important points. I can only suggest making them interesting, such as adding examples of relevant career paths of some real people in the org to show them the opportunities that the organization offers. Bits of info like nicknames, how you celebrated somebody's birthday, etc., can be dropped here and there to make them feel more comfortable and welcome.
Good luck!

Hi,
The quality of your Induction Program will have an influence on how the employee visualizes your organization and determines their long-term success with the organization. It's not only about the information you provide (PPTs, Videos, etc.), but the overall experience experienced by the employees.
I am a freelance HR/Training professional. We can work with you to make part of your induction interactive and fun by customized activities incorporating your culture, values, and philosophy. Let me know if you wish to discuss further.
Regards,
Judy
