Yes, I agree with the above reply from site members. It totally depends on the situation of the company. If any employee has more responsibility, then sometimes the company may extend the acceptance letter until a new person takes over the charge.

I fully endorse the comments of learned Member Shri T.K. Madhu. As rightly pointed out by him, the company may accept and relieve the person on the same day and settle the issue, whereas it can or will extend the time depending on how important the post/work is. Most companies appoint a person after spending a lot of time, money, and energy, unlike hiring a low-skilled worker.
If the post/work is important, then the company needs to find a substitute. However, the period cannot be indefinite to avoid spoiling the career growth of another person. Every HR Head should plan in the best interest of the company as well as the employee, as seniors will also seek better prospects. The HR Head should establish a uniform policy to prevent harassment, heartburn, and other grievances.
