Proposal for Minimum Wages for Contract Workers
As of my knowledge, this is a proposal and has not yet been confirmed by any notification. The proposed minimum wage for contract workers is Rs. 10,000 per month.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment, through its notification, has proposed to substitute Rule 25(2) clause (iv) in the Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolition) Central Rules, 1971 as follows:
In the Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Central Rules, 1971, in Rule 25, in sub-rule (2), for clause (iv), the following clause shall be substituted, namely:
“(iv) The rates of wages payable to workmen by the contractor shall not be less than:
(a) The rates prescribed under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948 (11 of 1948) for such employment where applicable; or
(b) The rates, if any, fixed by agreement, settlement, or award; or
(c) Ten thousand rupees,
whichever is higher.”
