I lost my one eye in childhood by accident. Now, I'm pursuing a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering and preparing for government jobs like PSU and IES. However, I'm scared of facing rejection due to medical issues. Please advise me on what I can do?

It depends on the department you are going. But I think most government departments have quotas for handicapped persons. You will qualify for that quota. But it's good if you have a personal or family contact in the department; otherwise, government employees are rarely helpful.

Dear Jitesh,

For employment in Central Government posts and jobs, the standards of disability, such as blindness, hearing impairment, and locomotor disability, are prescribed in line with the provisions of the Persons With Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995. I believe that all States and Union Territory Governments also adopt these standards. Recruitment agencies like the Union Public Service Commission, Staff Selection Commission, Banking Services Recruitment Board, and State Public Service Commissions, as well as all Public Sector Undertakings belonging to the Centre and States, notify in their employment notices the degree of admissible disabilities, disability-wise and job-wise. There are exclusive reservations of not less than 3% and additional relaxation in respect of the age limit for such candidates. If I am correct, the maximum standard of disability is 40%.
