I work as an HR Executive in a construction company that specializes in multilevel hotels and malls. My work hours are from 10 AM to 7 PM. Is this schedule compliant with the rules and regulations? I believe that working hours should typically be 8 hours. Your valuable guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

As per the rule, the working hours will be 8 hours but cannot exceed 9 hours, including lunch timing, in a day and not more than 48 hours in a week. Hope to receive your answer.

As per the Shops and Establishment Act, the maximum number of working hours per day is 9 hours (including the lunch break) and per week is 48 hours maximum. Please let us know if you have any questions regarding this matter.

There are two categories: (1) Workmen and (2) Management staff. Staff, though they come under the scope of the Shops & Establishment Act or are covered under labor laws as employees, do not have a voice to raise concerns about rules and regulations since their salaries exceed the minimum wage. In the case of workmen, wages are often paid according to union demands, sometimes falling below the minimum wage.
Therefore, it is the management's decision to set the working hours as the salaries for management staff are not restricted.
I hope this guidance is helpful to you.
