Hi all,

My name is Chandra Shekher Singh, and I currently work with a telecom company. I had resigned from an Electrical Project-based company in April 2011 and requested PF settlement. I was unaware that my name, as per the Electrical firm's records, was entered as Shekhar Singh, and the same was submitted to the PF Office. My name as per official and bank records is Chandra Shekher Singh. Therefore, I have a serious issue with my name mismatch and the non-settlement of the PF claim. I would like to know what the best possible solution could be. Are there any options or suggestions available?

Thank you,

Yours sincerely,
Chandra Shekher Singh

Dear Shekhar Ji,

Kindly get in touch with the HR Team and ask them for a name correction letter duly signed by the authorized signatory. You may submit the same along with the PF withdrawal form.

  • You are within your rights to ask and get certified copies of employment application form, PF forms submitted by you to the company, to clarify why the wrong name was submitted to the company. Did the employer supply the PF account slips/passbook to you? If yes, you could have pointed out the error. The designated HR person or employer can issue a certificate for the correction of the name. Keep a copy and demand acknowledgment issued by the PF office.

    Mr. Chandra Shekhar Singh,

You have noticed the fault belatedly. You must have received Form No. 23, a statement of account, from the PF office. If so, you would have raised objections regarding the correctness of your name in the PF records. Now, there is no problem. You should submit an application to the PF Office through your employer, requesting a correction of your name in the PF records. Please note that along with your application, you need to fill out Form No. 2 and 5 under the EPF scheme, duly signed by both you and your employer. This will enable the PF office to take necessary steps to rectify the name. There is nothing to worry about, but you will need to personally follow up on this matter out of your own interest.

  • Dear Chandrashekhar,

    Greetings for the day,

Instead of following a lengthy process, simply instruct your employer to draft the letter below, duly signed by the authorized signatory on the establishment letterhead. Enclose this letter with your withdrawal settlement form and submit it to the EPFO. The accumulated amount will be credited to your bank account smoothly. It is my humble request that you review the drafted letter below:

  • Dear All,

I wish to know if there is any procedure to change the name in a P.F. account where the company has submitted the wrong name. My name is Tushar, but the name shown on the P.F. account is Hemant Kumar Sonpal. In this case, what should I do? I have requested the company several times to resolve this issue and provide the necessary documents to change my real name, but they are not taking this matter seriously. The company's head office is in Mumbai, and I am living in Delhi.

Kindly suggest the necessary actions regarding this. It has been almost 1 year since this issue started.

    Thank you.

Get it rectified from RPFC, Mumbai. I think your PF will be deposited in Mumbai. Put all relevant papers regarding the correction in support of your name, and it must be verified by your employer and you both. Then deposit. You must have been allotted UAN; your name will also be changed on the UAN card.
