Dear All,

Kindly pay attention to my matter. My name is Vijay, and I have been serving the organization since 2012. In the current month, I was selected by a reputed company, and the new company wants me to join as soon as possible. I have requested them to give me 20 days to join, which they have agreed to and mentioned the joining date in the offer letter according to our discussions. Once I received the offer letter from the new company, I sent my resignation letter to my current company. However, they are now creating problems and do not want to relieve me before completing some tasks that they shared with me after I sent the resignation letter.

Notice Period and Task Completion

Please pay attention to the following points: "At the time of joining, they took me on as a trainee and provided me with a traineeship letter mentioning that after 6 months, I would receive a confirmation letter. In both of these letters I received, nothing was mentioned regarding the notice period or the responsibility to find my replacement upon resignation."

They are now insisting that I complete certain tasks and serve a one-month notice period, although I had expressed my wish to serve a 20-day notice period as I do not want to end my relationship with the company on a negative note.

Tasks Required for Timely Relieving

The tasks they want me to complete for a timely relieving are:

• To search for a replacement and train them.
• To collect pending payments from clients.
• To complete some administrative work.

I find it unfair that although I am not required to serve any notice period as per the process, I am willing to serve a 20-day notice period for the company's sake, yet they are imposing these conditions on me.

Please advise me on what to do in this scenario as I do not want to lose my offer and must join the new company on the specified date at all costs.

Thank you in advance.

Regards,
Vijay Kumar

Don't get frightened; explain your situation to your current employer and try to convince them to relieve you in 20 days. Immediately inform your recruiter about your situation with the current organization and ask if there is any possibility to extend your joining date.

You mentioned that it is a reputed company, so the Background Verification (BGV) process must be there in your offered company. To finish your BGV for them, it will take a minimum of 21 days (because the criminal check will take time in this process).

From your end, try to help your current organization at least in finding a replacement for your position. You should have an idea of who is working similarly to you in your field; it is not a TDS job.

Try to collect the check from your client because you mentioned that it has been pending for a long period. You must have a good relationship with them as you have been working for this company for a long time. From your end, you should not deny responding properly within these 20 days.
