I have not closed my HDFC bank account, which was a salary account and was converted to a savings account when I left the job. This has resulted in charges for not maintaining a balance in it. How can these charges be waived or canceled? I recently found out about this through my other HDFC bank account, which was combined by the bank last month.
What Should I Do?
Do I have to pay a penalty? Does the bank have the authority to deduct the penalty from my other HDFC account?

Understanding Account Terms and Conditions
You must have read the terms and conditions before you opened the account. If no salary is credited, they can change the account's nature, and usual charges are applicable. The way out is to pay the charges and close the account or continue with the required minimum balance. In the terms and conditions of opening an account, they have the right to appropriate the credits available in any other account for the charges.
