Hello everyone, this is Rima from Kolkata. I am an engineering graduate, and I have 1.6 years of experience in the IT domain as a Technical Consultant. Now, I'm seeking a career in HR and currently undergoing training on practical HR concepts. I have recently been offered a position as a student/education counsellor with a leading training institute in Kolkata. I really need some guidance and expert advice regarding this job profile, career prospects, and the salary guide for this profession.

Eagerly awaiting a reply.

Based on my knowledge, a Student/Education Counselor's job does not fall under HR, although the objective of the job is related to HR through counseling. When we discuss the Counselor job, it is considered a role in sales and marketing, especially when it is in a training institute. This position is target-oriented, so it is important to determine that first. If you are interested in pursuing a career in HR, consider starting with recruitment as there are numerous opportunities available for a recruiter position.

Good luck!

Hi Friend,

As per my knowledge, a Student/Education Counselor job doesn't come under HR, although the objective of the job relates to HR, i.e., "counseling." When we talk about a Counselor job, it is a good job and comes under sales and marketing, especially in a training institute. This job will be target-oriented, so first, find out about that. If you are interested in pursuing a career in HR, then start with recruitment because you will find many opportunities for a recruiter position. Good luck.

Thanks a lot, Spriya, for answering my query. I had a further discussion with the employer regarding the job description, and they also mentioned that the job will be target-based and is basically a marketing profile. I am a bit apprehensive about working in any target-oriented profile. Is recruitment also about achieving targets? Are there any recruitment profiles that are not target-based?

Regards,
Spriya

Recruitment wont be a target based job but sometimes it depends on the company you are choosing. You are from technical backgroung r8? then go for IT Recruitment it will be easy for you. Regards priya
