VISION

Where does the company want to be, let us say, in the next 5-10 years?

MISSION

The method by which the vision will be accomplished.

OBJECTIVE

Defining tasks to achieve the mission.

KPI

Performance indicators that will tell whether the objective has been achieved.

A daily life example:

Vision: I will go to Europe for holidays in the year 2014.

Mission:
- I will increase my savings.
- I will find out the travel requirements for the trip to Europe.
- Update/revalidate my passport (and so on, such as information on hotels, cost of travel, etc.).

Objective:
- Open a recurring deposit.
- Take up a part-time job.
- Visit various agencies for information.
- Visit websites.
- Ask people who have already been to Europe.
- Visit the passport office site to understand the procedure.

KPI:
- Recurring deposit has been opened before December 2013 for Rs. xxxxx/- [Yes/No].
- Part-time job secured, giving an income of Rs. xxxx/- before December 2013 [Yes/No].
- Enquiries with various agencies made before November 2013 [Yes/No].
- Information from websites gathered before November 2013 [Yes/No], and so on.

Hope this helps in getting an idea about the concepts.

MISSION: Answers the question: "WHY DO WE EXIST?"

VISION: Communicates the future desired state (what the individual/organization wants to become).

VALUES: The 'means' by which the mission is communicated. They also provide the motivation and guidelines for action.

KPI: Key Performance Indicators are normally a set of quantifiable measures that an organization uses to monitor its performance in terms of accomplishing their mission/strategies/goals/objectives.
