Vision and Mission Creation

Top leadership is responsible for creating the vision and mission of the company. Both are for the enterprise, not any department or section within a department. Vision is the mental picture of the future. The mission is a path to achieving this mental picture.

Role of the Compliance Team

The compliance team is a part of the company's department. It cannot have any vision or mission. If a marketing manager had raised this query, it would have been considered because the market is forever in flux, and to outcompete competitors, it is important to do market research constantly and introduce something new in the market. In contrast, the work of the compliance team is steady, and unlike the marketing department, there is certainty about the outcome of their work.

Focus on Objectives

Against this backdrop, what you need to do is to devise the objectives of the department, not the vision and mission. If some senior has told you to do this, then it is sheer ignorance. Tell that person to read this reply.

- On-time submission of returns.
- No deviations in the Acts.
- Zero fines, damages, penalties, etc.
- Response to the authorities in stipulated time for any inspection notes.
- Zero show cause notices to the organization other than the inspection notes.
- Ensuring 100% contractors' compliances.
