I am quite a new member here. I worked in the past for 8 months as a freelancer. To ensure it does not appear as a gap in my employment (as it was not a registered organization type and just a group of 5 people), I was provided with a formal experience certificate mentioning the date of joining and relieving. Now, I have been selected by a company where I have submitted this document. Currently, that company is no longer in operation (it was a freelancing group operating 4 years back). Kindly suggest how to deal with this issue as the current employer requires evidence for that particular employment, and I don't have anything with me now.

Kindly suggest how to deal with this.

Thanks

Clarifying Employment Gaps

In the past, you worked for a company as a freelancer for a duration of 8 months. Unfortunately, the company has since closed down. Four years ago, it was a freelancing group. I am sure that in this 4 years' time, you must have worked somewhere. Can you elaborate?

Clarifying Your Freelance Experience

How did you present your experience to your current firm? You mentioned that you have an experience letter from your freelancing firm. If it includes the tenure, it should suffice. Your recent experience is more important. What is the trouble? Please elaborate.

The current organization has no issues with it. The new organization is facing challenges as they are conducting a background verification and are unable to verify that specific experience. Consequently, they are requesting additional proof.

You should be honest with them and say it was a freelancing firm, and you worked with them for 8 months so that there is no gap in your employment. Apart from that, if your current organization can help you by giving their experience of you and how they verified you, then talk about the work experience with this freelancing firm. I think there is no other way but to try to convince the employer and show the truth. All the best.

Contacting Former Employers for Verification

You must be in touch or have contact details of the owners of the company you used to work with 4 years back. With the approval of the owner, share his phone number or email ID with HR and let them speak to get confirmation. It's not a crime to have worked with a company that has since closed (assuming you weren't responsible for the closure), and HR understands that.
