I have recently joined a BPO company in Chennai, and there are no policies and procedures on employee benefits. Even the employees are working on national/festival holidays. Also, the company is not interested in framing policies/procedures. When checked, they claim that it does not work out in this industry. I just wanted to understand if there would be legal implications. Please advise and do reply.

Thanks and regards,

Understanding the BPO Industry's Operations

The BPO industry operates 24/7 to provide customer service. This setup clearly informs employees that they can either avail themselves of the holiday or be compensated with another day off or pay. You should check with your manager to get a clear picture and adjust yourself accordingly.

If the answer is no, I'm afraid you will have to consider changing industries.

Thank you, Mr. Abhishek. However, there is nothing like paying them for the working day or compensating them for the holidays with other days, etc. Even the maternity benefits are not provided for women employees.
