I hope you are all doing well. I recently went for an interview where they asked whether an employee who joins a new company and then has an accident the next day is entitled to receive benefits under the Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) or not. Please share your valuable views with me.

Thank you.

Employee Coverage Under ESIC: Key Points

First of all, it should be noted that after joining, the joining formalities should be completed. The employee should be covered under ESIC within 10 days after joining (if the employee's salary is up to Rs. 15,000/-). If the employee is already covered under ESIC previously, then he will continue with the same number.

Secondly, if the employee is appointed for the first time and his coverage under ESIC is also for the first time and he meets with an accident on the very next day, the formalities of ESIC will be carried out as usual. The only thing for a new joiner is that medical treatment should be provided to him, but monetary compensation shouldn't be provided. For an employee who was previously covered under ESIC, his same enrollment will continue, and he will benefit from both monetary and medical support. Lastly, the contribution paid for the number of days should also be considered for benefits.
