Hi All, I have recently joined a growing IT company as an Onboarding HR. We have good practices for onboarding resources, including background checks, pre-medical tests, etc., which also present some challenges. I am now looking to enhance the new joiners' experience in a more significant way. How can I interact with them to create a pleasant atmosphere? I aim to make their onboarding experience truly memorable. Could I please receive some suggestions on this?

Thanks!

Welcoming New Hires with Employee Orientation

Welcoming the new hires with the Employee Orientation is quite customary for all companies. It involves delivering topics that are conventional in providing information about the company overview, presentations, etc., and making the employees feel that the company is investing in them. Your idea is certain, and probably, employees would feel much more excited to start their work positively.

Presentations all the time! Give them some regular breaks and ask for their opinions on how this is going and where they feel some improvements can be made. Trust this makes employees feel special.

Welcoming on a Contemporary Note

Hand them pens, pads with the company logo, and try even coffee mugs, which cheer up the employee and make them feel that the company cares.

Instead of directly handing out the company's "Need to Know" copies, you can start using real-life examples. At the outset, inquire about what they think scenarios are (management bios, organizational charts, and company events).

A preeminent practice for rejuvenating and invigorating the employees is by providing a map and a walking tour of the facilities.

The above is on one side when considering the first phase of being different from any other orientation programs. The arrangement of the classroom and necessary information to be learned should be pinned to the lath (cloth board).

Thank you for your response. Can you also suggest how to decorate the joining room? We already have posters about our company values and all. What other items can be added to enhance the decor?

Thanks,

With the offer letter, you can send the First Day in Office schedule. During the induction, you can play some relevant games that help you learn about the employees' areas of interest. Additionally, you can start a full-day session and give it a name of your choice. This can include having lunch together and playing some games with special information. You can also provide goodies if you want.

In addition to what Sharmila had suggested, here are two practices for onboarding. They aren't very expensive or require a lot of changes, but they do make a difference.
