Hi everyone,
I need help from all of you. I want to know, as per OHSAS or any other standard, is it necessary that when we appoint an electrician, they must have an electrical license, or can we appoint them based on their previous experience? Similarly, is the same case with welders. Is previous experience sufficient to hire them, or do we need to have them go through the government welding test process?

Dear Vamsi,
No credentials should be needed for electricians and welders. If it's addressed in the contract, then yes, you have to meet that requirement. If not, just hire experienced persons. We ran into the same issue last month.

In OHSAS, we have competency. If the auditor asks about the competency of choosing contract electricians, we can simply show his past experience details, and that should be fine.

Dear Vamshi,
In the case of an electrician, they should have a certificate course in electrical ITI. Additionally, there should be a person with a supervisory license to assign and supervise their jobs.

Dear Vamshi, Yes ,There is a requirement of competence as per QMS or OHSAS ,The welder or electrician should be Trade certificate either ITI or should passed a exam for said requirement. D K Mathur

As per legal requirements and OHSAS standards, you need to ensure the competency of your employees. For electricians, after appointing them, you must have them certified by the Chief Electrical Inspector of the respective state, in addition to holding a state-recognized ITI/diploma in electrical/electrician trade. For welders, employees should possess certification in the welding trade.

All it states is that personnel should be certified or trained to perform the required job, either by receiving training from the current company or from their previous organization. This evidence can be provided through a certificate or a technical CV of the individual. When it comes to auditing, the auditor will definitely ask you to show proof of your qualifications and training certification.

Your question is similar to this: Select the appropriately trained, certified, and qualified candidate for the job, even if you have to pay the stipulated wages. For any reason, please do not put yourself in the dark by selecting candidates without the necessary qualifications for the job.
If you and I operate on a patient, what will happen to the patient? The same consequences will occur if you select the wrong candidates for the right job. OK, ALL THE BEST VAMSI.
