An existing employee for the last two years has been paying his PF deduction, and the company is also paying its dues every month against his name. However, the PF Office has somehow made an error in noting this employee's name, and his PF Number, when checked, shows the name of some unknown person. The company's annual returns and monthly returns show the correct name. Now the employee is scared that later in life, he may have a problem getting his PF dues. Can we close his PF Account and give him a new number with all the correct details? He can then apply to withdraw the current PF dues as a former employee. Repeated liaison with the PF Office has also not resolved the problem.

In this regard, a company has to submit the certification letter that shows the PF record name and the correct name are of the same person, and he has been continuously working with us from this to this.

So kindly settle his PF account.

Instead of withdrawing the balance and issuing a new PF Number, it is better that the company writes a letter to the concerned PF Office clarifying the correct facts and stating that the name entered by the PF Office is erroneous. The company should request the PF Office to rectify their records with the correct name of the member. Generally, the PF Office complies with this request. This will provide the member with the continuity of service benefits.
