I have experience as an admin cum assistant in an IT company. I have now left my company. However, I am facing challenges in qualifying for interviews due to my poor communication skills. When I speak English, my pronunciation is unclear, and I often make grammar mistakes, leading to confusion.

Please help me improve myself.

The only way to improve yourself is by reading a lot of articles in newspapers and books. By doing this, you may understand how to converse. Mostly, try to speak in whatever way (layman language) even if there might be any grammatical errors. Watch business channels and try using a dictionary in case of difficulty.

By following this approach, you will improve your communication skills in a better way. Be confident, never lose hope.

Here are a few simple ways you can try:

1. **Listen More:** Watch English news and programs regularly. Listen carefully to the pronunciation and try using the same when you make conversation.

2. **Read More:** Reading novels and newspapers introduces you to a new world of words. Hence, you can update your vocabulary too.

Be confident when you speak. Good luck!

I respect the way in which you have accepted that you want to improve your communication skills. (English is only a language to express.)

The above-said thing will definitely help you in gaining knowledge about English, but not the required experience, and that too in an unskilled manner because in your case while reading, you will continue reading with the wrong pronunciation.

Before suggesting ways, may I know what you have done in the past to improve your communication skills (here I am referring to English) and what problems you face while speaking? Is it the clarity of thoughts, or is it the lack of knowledge about the words or sentence construction? From the way you have written your problem, I will suggest "BACK TO THE BASICS."

Tips to Improve Your English Communication Skills

It's a common problem for many people because English is not our national language. However, if you want to succeed in the corporate industry, your communication skills should be very good. I am just giving some tips to help you improve your English:

• Read an English newspaper in front of a mirror.
• Try to make a friend with whom you can speak only in English.
• Watch English movies.
• Buy a book or download a tongue twister from the internet; it will help you a lot.
• Don't hesitate to speak English, regardless of whether you are using the right words or not. Just remember that your sentence should flow continuously until it is complete.

Good Luck!

In addition, if you can be on video, you may be able to achieve better communication soon. I also caution you that it is not a quick-fix solution or magic; it will require sincere, deliberate efforts for a minimum of 16 to 20 weeks.

I do not know your background; however, since you have worked as an admin assistant, you are able to cope with routine work. One thing is clear: in HR/Admin roles, there is a lot of communication to be done in the office. You will need to talk to different sets of people, so your communication must be effective. Not everyone is born a genius. It is necessary for you to try to improve your communication skills. Improvement is achievable and will happen automatically.

Follow this Method:

1. Talk to people in your family in English only.
2. Read English newspapers daily.
3. Read the editorials in English newspapers daily, especially from The Hindu.
4. Daily, use a dictionary to find the meanings of at least 10 to 15 words.
5. Never attempt to converse with executives in your regional language.
6. Read a lot of novels and historical books from the library.

If you follow the above steps, I am confident that you will gain confidence within a period of three months, and you can continue to improve.

Kind regards

Please take a good English-Hindi-English dictionary and read it for at least half an hour daily. Try to speak English always and write these words four to five times a day. This way, your vocabulary and pronunciation will improve.

To have a command of any language, you need to learn its grammar first. For English grammar, I would suggest "English Grammar by Wren & Martin," a book available in bookshops that will give you basic lessons in grammar. Next, as many have suggested, read an English newspaper. I suggest the Times of India, Mumbai edition. Lastly, speak only English as much as you know/can.

Best of luck.

English is an imported language. You can speak in a simple style. We need not use bombastic words; it must convey the meaning. Not only you, but most people are also like you. Please use a good dictionary like OXFORD.

BEST OF LUCK. One thing I have to appreciate is that you have agreed with your position.

Thank you.

Improving Communication Skills

To improve your communication, what you need is good listening skills. Listen to all videos, songs, movies, or whatever you can in English. Watching movies will be helpful; it's from my experience. Another thing you can do is, if you have a mirror in your home, go in front of the mirror and start talking about any topics that you are interested in.

I think this is enough. Within a short period, you will be a master. Good luck.

Please follow the methods below, and you will find yourself more comfortable during English conversations:

1. Make it a habit to read at least one English newspaper.
2. Listen to English news or English cricket commentary (not in Hindi).
3. Look up new English words and try to use them during daily discussions.
4. If possible, teach or guide a few students in English. This is a good platform for beginners where you will feel more knowledgeable than them, boosting your confidence to speak English.
5. Lastly, keep speaking in English with friends. Don't worry about mistakes; instead, notice them and try to rectify them next time.

Hopefully, you will soon be able to speak English fluently.

Can I say one thing to you? Never bother about accent or vocabulary! They are the essence or spice of the language. Communication means making others understand "what you are saying."

LSRW Formula for Effective Communication

There is an LSRW formula that you should prioritize in this way:

1. Listening
2. Speaking
3. Reading
4. Writing

In the initial stage, start by speaking in simple English with pauses. Pauses will give your brain time to process what you have to say in the next moment, reducing mistakes. Don't worry about active, passive, direct, or indirect sentences; just focus on simple sentences. This approach will help you gain confidence. After that, you can work on expanding your vocabulary and using phrases. Remember, the British accent is different from the American; even in British English, only 12% follow their own accent. The way we speak English in our country reflects our culture.

The final point is to ensure people understand you. That's all. Best of luck!

This is a common issue we are facing today in the MNC culture. English proficiency is a prime requirement, and many people are not comfortable with it. These valuable suggestions will be very helpful in improving their speaking skills.

Thanks to all of you.

Practical Tips for Improving English Communication Skills

I would like to suggest some practical things which you can follow immediately without much effort:

• Use the Google Chrome extension dictionary feature.

• Download or purchase Cambridge dictionary software; it has a thesaurus and pronunciation feature that will help you a lot.

• Watch at least 30 minutes of any cartoon channel (English version); it will provide refreshment and knowledge of English usage. You can have fun with your children, if you have any; they will enjoy it too.

• Gain command over the perfect tense first; it will give you more confidence.

• Last but not least, don't lose heart. One of my teachers told me that the English language is not a big deal; just follow continuously, and it will take around 10 months. So be calm and keep trying. Very soon, you will feel that you are changing. Believe me and cheer!

It's good that you are willing to improve, at least now. It is not true that everybody is good at everything; almost all of us have our weaknesses. English speaking is difficult not only for you but for many. I suggest the following simple methods:

1. First of all, with the help of some of your good friends, you have to identify what is wrong in your English speaking. For example, grammatical mistakes and inappropriate usage of words, i.e., using the wrong words in the wrong place. Try to correct them all.

2. Think in English and speak in English.

3. Always try to speak in English, whether at home or outside.

4. Reading English newspapers regularly will help you understand how to build sentences and where to use them.

5. Most English movies don't help improve English speaking in the short run, as many conversations are not clearly understood (except when subtitles are displayed on the screen). So, you won't benefit much. Instead, if you watch English news on TV, you will gain better pronunciation.

Improving English Communication Skills

Reading a page aloud for half an hour a day will improve your English. Try to use simple words and sentences. Listen to good speakers. Don't be conscious of your mistakes. Determine to speak in English only, come what may; no sky will fall on you.

ESL (English as a Second Language) requires dedication to understand first and then speak. We are not born and brought up in an environment where we would not be hesitant about speaking it. So until you understand the language, you can't speak it.

It's okay to be hesitant, but not speaking it at all is not okay. You really have to be conversant wherever you get any chance to speak. Reading and writing do help, but only speaking shows drastic changes. Be patient and practice at least 30 minutes of reading a newspaper and then summarizing it without looking at the newspaper verbally.

English is a language and not any formula that you cram and start speaking without any hesitation.

I am sure it will help you. All the best.
